Step 1: Complete a Volunteer Application
To complete an application to join the Medical Reserve Corps, please click here. You will receive an email notification when your application is reviewed. All volunteers are required to complete an application and keep information current in the Volunteer Volunteer Health System (VVHS).
Step 2: Review the MRC Orientation Presentation
This information is designed to provide you with an overview of the Medical Reserve Corps. Upon completion, you will be able to describe the roles and responsibilities of MRC volunteers and understand how the MRC supports public health and emergency preparedness.

Step 3: Read the Rappahannock MRC Member Handbook
This document will provide you with important information about the unit.
Step 4: Schedule an Orientation Appointment
Now that you have looked over the Orientation Presentation and read through the RMRC Member Handbook, you need to make your membership official. You will need to schedule a time to fill out a few forms, get your badge picture taken, and turn in copies of licenses and certifications. Email RappahannockMRC@vdh.virginia.gov or call (540) 322 - 5940 to set up an appointment.
Step 5: Create an account on TRAIN Virginia
TRAIN Virginia is an online learning management resource that combines trainings from numerous different organizations. Volunteers must have a TRAIN account in order to register to participate in upcoming trainings and events.

Step 6: Complete Required Initial Training (within the next year)
Completion of the following online Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) courses is required within your first year with the RMRC:
- IS-100.b Introduction to the Incident Command System, ICS-100
- IS-700.a National Incident Management System, An Introduction
Please email your certificate of completion to RappahannockMRC@vdh.virginia.gov once you have successfully completed each of these courses.
